Frequency Upgrade Dance Experience

We Need to Dance More Than Ever!

Somewhere along the way, many of us simply stopped dancing and playing.

It's almost as though there's an unspoken rule that play belongs to childhood; that once we're adults, we should always be responsible, always productive, always getting things done. Somewhere along the way, many of us quietly lose permission to simply play.

As children, we moved because it felt good. We danced because music invited us to. We laughed until our sides hurt, explored without purpose, and lost ourselves completely in moments of enchantment and curiosity.

And for many people, dancing then becomes something reserved for nights out, often substance-fuelled rather than simply for the joy of moving.

We are told that productivity is the measure of a successful day. Responsibilities continue to grow, and we learn to value doing over being. Play becomes something we squeeze into the gaps, or something we promise ourselves we will get back to one day.

Our bodies haven't forgotten this innate need to dance and play, but our minds can override this. Our bodies long to move in this way. We just need to remember to invite them.

Our inner wisdom tells us that movement changes things. Dancing changes us from within. We can dance and shift from holding stress in our bodies to shaking it all off and finding our flow again.

Yet when do we actually get the opportunity for authentic movement and non-performative expression dancing with others?

Simply just for fun, for the pure joy of being alive and in a body.

Dancing freely, and without judgement from self or others, helps us remember who we are. We move and breathe life back into our bones, enlivening us.

When we dance, something begins to soften. Our breathing deepens. Our nervous systems settle. The constant stream of thinking quietens just enough for us to hear something deeper within ourselves.

Dance asks nothing of us except to arrive.

When there are no goals to achieve, no performance to perfect and no version of ourselves we have to become, we relax into flowing with whatever wants to naturally move through us.

Just Music, Movement, Presence.

There is something profoundly human about gathering with others to move together. Across every culture and throughout history, people have danced in celebration, in grief, in ceremony, in joy and in community. Long before we had words for nervous systems, wellbeing or mental health, we instinctively knew that rhythm, music and movement helped us reconnect with ourselves and with one another.

Maybe this is what we are remembering and reclaiming. Dancing can feel so nourishing, and so fundamentally necessary for many people's health and wellbeing.

It doesn't have to be about trying to improve ourselves, it can be quite simply a time where we stop trying altogether and just bounce to the beats and remember what true freedom feels like.

When we dance together our hearts open, we smile and laugh more easily and feel less alone.

In a world that constantly pulls us into our heads, dancing can be a quiet rebellion. It brings us back into our bodies and gently invites us home to ourselves.

Seb and I both have roots in dance culture and have spent years enjoying the many benefits that music, dance and open-hearted community brings.

We realise how important this is for our own health and wellbeing, especially as we get older - but we also realise how fortunate we are to have this.

There is something profoundly human about gathering with others to move together. We don't just remember ourselves through dance; we remember one another. For a few hours, strangers become familiar, smiles are exchanged without words, and we remember what it feels like to belong to something bigger than ourselves. There is a quiet kind of medicine in that.

Seb and I don't see dance as a playtime we earn after working hard enough. We see it as part of being alive; staying healthy, happy and being part of a community.

Dance has been an important part of what we have offered over the past twenty years, and the Frequency Upgrade Dance Experience is our latest expression of that love.

It's a space for people to come together, enjoy dancing to music with beats, meet friends old and new, and remember what it feels like to move freely.

We create all of the music ourselves, crafting immersive journeys through house, techno, trance and spirit. Our music is designed to support the body to let go and flow, the mind to quieten and the heart to open.

At our Frequency Upgrade dance events you will find a warm, welcoming community and a dance floor where you are free to be exactly as you are.

If you've been longing to move more, laugh more, feel more alive, or simply spend an evening in easy company bopping around the dancefloor, we'd love to see you.

Sometimes the medicine we're looking for is simply remembering how to play again!
